New Sports Floors

Important Considerations the Rutty & Breacher Difference

Firstly designing a floor for the purpose it is intended, from a community hall which has to cope with lots of different stresses to an elite sports venue where the floor has to respond to the players.

Also timber is a natural product, which behaves differently in different climate, if the right choices are not made for your particular situation you, may experience expansion and contraction problems.

The major causes of trouble with wood floor systems are believed to be:

  • improper sub-floor construction
  • excessive moisture
  • insufficient provisions throughout the body of the floor and space allowed around the perimeter of the floor
  • improper maintenance of the building and floor, such as poor ventilation in humid weather and excessive use of water on or under the floor
  • excessive heat, e.g. skylights/windows, heating systems

This is where R&B Timber Flooring extensive knowledge and experience becomes extremely useful, either in the design process or in identifying the causes of problems you may be experiencing with your floor. The ranges of conditions of temperature and relative humidity in the atmosphere above the floor system are large and variable. The control of moisture is recognised as the most important factor in the successful installation of a wood floor, and this includes the moisture content of the flooring material.

Due to R&B Timber Floorings’ extensive experience in laying sports floors and our long history dealing with our key suppliers we are in the unique position of being able to modify our basic floor specifications to meet the particular requirements of each customer. This may be to meet a special requirement for a particular sport, a set budget, or to achieve a particular look all while still meeting industry and R&B Timber Flooring standards.

These basic floor specifications installed by R&B Timber Flooring were first installed over 40 years ago and have been continually enhanced as new materials have become available.

Look closely and you will see that these specifications are very similar to that of our competitors and that is because these are the originals.

Just like we can mix and match different timber species Tasmanian Messmate, Blackbutt, Spotted Gum to suite the floors intended purpose and budget we can accommodate different skirting requirements.

R&B Timber Flooring and supply and install different skirting options and games posts.

Skirting options are all vented and taking into consideration the organic nature of the timber sports floor. At R&B Timber Flooring we recommend a simple bullnose skirting nailed directly to the floor. This has so many advantages over the box skirting systems :

  • Cheap and easy to install as its not attached to the wall
  • As it is attached and sealed with the floor is stops any water/moisture from spills or the washing process getting underneath the floor which can lead to major problems
  • As the skirting is less of a trip hazard compared to bulkier systems
